I am from Kauai, Hawai'i and Rakahanga Cook Islands (Hanalei, Kaua'i and Matara, Rakahanga villages). I went to Hanalei Elementary, Waimea High School and James Cook High School in Manurewa, Auckland. My favourite subjects at school were English and P.E and my least favourite was maths! I wanted to become a pilot until I learnt that physics and maths were necessary for entrance into aeronautical school.
I work as a Communications Warfare Specialist - it’s my job to protect New Zealand’s interests from the Sea. I love the travel and financial security of my job. The military life style offers something different and there's always space to make new mates and family.
My parents had the biggest impact on my school years – seeing them work three, sometimes four, jobs to ensure I had the best up bringing I could whilst in school was the best feeling to know I was supported by them.
If you could give some words of wisdom to your younger self - what would you say?

" If you have toxic friends in your life that don't come to enhance and challenge the journey you're on, you have to let them go. Now is the time to execute your parents and grandparents teachings! Remain humble in victory and gracious in defeat "
