I was born and bred in Auckland. I am of Tokelauan decent, from a village called Fakaofo. I went to Dilworth School for intermediate and high school, where my favourite subjects were Music and Maths, and my most disliked subjects were Physics funnily enough and English. Reflecting on my school years and who had the biggest impact on me, it would have to be my mother and friends, between them I was able to develop into the person here today. When I finished school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I went to study at Otago University, Law for 3 years. My first job after School was as a Teacher Aid and then as a 2IC at Cargill Enterprises for one of their departments.
I now work as a Supply Chain and Logistics Coordinator at United Machinists, where I liaise with suppliers near and far to procure various grades of metals and alloys, while helping with dispatch. What I really enjoy about my role is working in a healthy team environment, having autonomy to complete my daily tasks.
I am looking forward to this event and to see fellow Pasifika people break the status quo and challenge boundaries.
If you could give some words of wisdom to your younger self - what would you say?
